Quick Introduction to Landscape Ecology
An overview of the field of landscape ecology, provided by the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE).

Web module on Landscape Ecology and Environmental Management (link coming soon)
An online tutorial developed by Langhei Ecology as part of the Environmental Protection Agency's Watershed Academy 2000 web-based training series. The module will be available as soon as it is posted to the EPA server, and will be accessible via a link here.

Starting the Hunt
"A guide to mostly on-line and mostly free U.S. geospatial and attribute data." This is a good place to start because the author, Stephan Pollard, has attempted to get you as close to the data and metadata as possible. National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse
This clearinghouse allows access to over 100 data servers, or nodes, that have digital geographic data primarily for use in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or other spatial software. It is part of the Federal Geographic Data Committee's National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI), which establishes policies, standards, and procedures for organizations to cooperatively produce and share geographic data.

USGS National Mapping Information
A wealth of information and links to various USGS products, including maps and spatial data. Many products are available for purchase, but some are free for download. This site also provides access to the USGS node of the National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse.

Geography Network (ESRI)
The Geography Network provides access to a large collection of geographic data from many of the world's leading data publishers. This digital data is intended for use with geographic information system (GIS) software. The data collection includes a number of online data sets for download, and links to other data sets that you may acquire directly from the data publisher.

National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC)

GIS data - Southern Appalachian mountains
The GIS home page for the Coweeta Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) contains site descriptions, maps, contacts, links, digital raster graphics (DRGs), digital line graphs (DLGs), remotely sensed data (Landsat Thematic Mapper, or TM, and SPOT) and value-added GIS products from other sources. Data are provided to support aquatic and terrestrial ecological research in the Southern Appalachian mountains in the Blue Ridge physiographic province.
