Langhei Ecology, LLC, was founded in July, 1996 to provide ecological expertise to government, industry, and non-profit institutions in support of environmental management and regulatory compliance. We are located in Glenelg, Maryland, within 30 minutes of the Washington, D.C. Beltway, and within 30 minutes of Baltimore-Washington International Airport. We have advanced degrees in ecology, environmental management, and law, as well as professional experience in applied ecology and environmental management spanning nearly 20 years.
Since forming our company, we have often been asked about the meaning of our name. Langhei (pronounced LANG-high) is a place name from the valley of Setesdal in the Telemark region of Norway. Our co-founder's ancestors emigrated to the United States from that area in 1853. Langhei is also the name of the township in Pope County, Minnesota, where those ancestors settled and have farmed for five generations.
